Community Energy Malawi (CEM) provides services in; Networking of organisations and individuals with interest in renewable energy; Raising Awareness on potential of renewable energy; Capacity building in Renewable Energy Technologies; Lobbying and advocacy on Renewable Energy and; Fundraising for and funding Renewable Energy Technologies We are a Malawian led and membership driven organisation formed as part of the Community Energy Development Programme (CEDP) under the Malawi Renewable Energy Acceleration Programme (MREAP) funded by Scottish Government. It was formed in 2012 and is modelled after Community Energy Scotland who were the Managers of the CEDP following a series of scoping studies done by University of Strathclyde, Community Energy Scotland, IODPARC and their Malawian Strategic Partners namely: Concern Universal, Malawi Polytechnic, Mzuzu University and Mulanje Renewable Energy Agency. We are incorporated as Non Government Organisation with Government of Malawi under the Trustees Incorporation Act with Reg No: TR/INC 6332. We are also registered with CONGOMA and NGO Board.
1. GENERAL ASSEMBLY:
Constitution of all paid up members of Community Energy Malawi which is the supreme body that makes general decisions of the organisation. The General Assembly is supposed to take place once a year even though Extra Ordinary General Assemblies can be called depending on issues at hand.
2. BOARD OF DIRECTORS:
This has delegated powers of the General Assembly to direct policy and have oversight role of secretariat. The Board meets quarterly and in some instances they meet adhoc.
The Board has subcommittees on:
1) Finance and Audit,
2) Appointments and Disciplinary and 3) Projects. It is currently chaired by Mr. Kelvin Tembo.
3. SECRETARIAT: This is the hub of all CEM operations headed by the Country Director and is located in Area 14, Lilongwe. Among others it is responsible for management of all funding and partnership agreements.
It directly reports to the Board and has departments of: Finance and Administration, Operations (Programmes) and Monitoring & Learning Unit. Secretariat also supervises Regional Offices.
